About
Alexei Stepanov // photographer & other things
Whether it’s a place, an event, or a person, I’m rarely looking for the what-who-when-where-why, I shoot from one moment to the next, from one scene to the next. I have no interest in constructing a narrative as I shoot, I'm going with impressions and single pictures that later (hopefully) create a mosaic of the place, the event, the person. But all things rational happen after the camera has been turned off.
For me, photography is a way of experiencing the world and other people, revealing the beauty, the subtle connections and emotions without embellishing anything. And there’s a special place in my heart for all things absurd.
“When people look at my pictures I want them to feel the way they do when they want to read a line of a poem twice.” (Robert Frank)
